About 4 year(s) ago by Hotel John Wayne Airport Just a few miles away from any of our Orange County locations, John Wayne Airport is the ideal airport to fly into when visiting the OC. Located approximately 35 miles south of Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and Irvine, the John Wayne Airport is the only commercial airport in Orange County. For a hassle free experience, this airport is the go-to option. Going through security never takes too long, traffic is minimal, and the terminal is easy to navigate. Designed to resemble the inside of an airplane, the airport terminal features natural stone, stainless steel and a glass enclosed central lobby. Vaulted ceilings and large windows overlook the runway giving an airy feel to the departure lounge. The John Wayne airport, also known as SNA or the Orange County Airport, has even been featured in major motion pictures such as “Demolition Man” with Sylvester Stallone and “Jerry Maguire” starring Tom Cruise and Renee Zelwegger. In 2011, in concordance with the Airport Improvement Program, John Wayne Airport doubled its retail and dining options. The Thomas F. Riley Terminal features many different dining selections to delight the palate of any traveler. Ruby’s Diner, a popular Orange County branded restaurant, is a full service restaurant option that offers classic American fare including burgers, fries, salads, and milkshakes. A healthier, but still locally inspired, option is the Farmer’s Market by Laguna Culinary Arts. The menu changes based on seasonal availability and offers travelers options from fresh soups, salads, fruits, to local cheeses. For those with pre-flight jitters wine lounges, bars, and airline club lounges can also be found in the John Wayne airport. The John Wayne Airport boasts over 80 art exhibitions since its opening in September 1990. The idea is to give travelers a memorable experience through art, science and popular culture exhibits. Currently, the Flight of Ideas, a large scale three-dimensional sculpture composed of 21 aluminum birds, is installed above Terminal C in an “S” shape over 100 feet long. Another exhibit includes 190 portraits of Joan Quinn patroness of the arts. Highlighted pieces include the workings of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Frank Gehry, David Hockney, Robert Mapplethorpe, Shepard Fairey, Helmut Newton and many more. So if you’re going to visit us in Orange County soon, be sure to fly into the John Wayne Airport for a bother free and cultured travel experience. Some of our Orange County locations will even pick you up from the airport in our complimentary shuttle. All in all, this is one massive travel tip that you do not want to take lightly!
