How to Experience Disneyland in a Single Day

About 3 month(s) ago by Ayres Hotels

Experiencing the many rides and attractions available at Disneyland Resort in a single day may seem like an insurmountable task, but with these inside tips and tricks, you will be sure to enjoy everything the park has to offer.

TIP ONE: DO NOT SHOP FOR SOUVENIRS

Shopping for the perfect souvenir can be an arduous, time-consuming task. Instead of spending your precious time in the shops, plan to shop on a day where you do not have a park pass. You can visit the Disney Parks Shop in downtown Disney and find the same authentic souvenirs you would inside the park. In addition to reserving this saved time for park attractions, your shopping experience will be more pleasurable as you will not have to rush.

TIP TWO: WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING

Disneyland already recommends that you dress comfortably – but it is important to really emphasize this point for those who are on a strict time limit. Wearing extremely comfortable clothes – such as exercise attire and sneakers – can be essential to squeezing the entire park into a day. Also, due the hot climate, it is preferable to wear a lightweight, light colored t-shirt (avoid black clothing as these can make you feel significantly warmer and more sluggish). Most of all, forgo denim clothing because it is more constrictive and quite uncomfortable when it becomes wet (and you do not want to miss out on the water rides!).

TIP THREE: DINE AT “TO-GO” RESTAURANTS

To save a significant amount of time, avoid sit-down restaurants. When you eat at to-go restaurants, you will receive your food quicker and will not have to wait for a server to attend to you. If you do desire to eat at one of the sit-down restaurants, it is advised that you make a reservation in advance to avoid waiting to be seated.

TIP FOUR: STRATEGIZE YOUR RIDE SCHEDULE

Knowing when to go on certain rides to avoid long lines is crucial. The key to mastering this line-skipping art is to download a Disneyland rides app to your phone, such as Mouse Wait, Mouse Addict, or Disneyland Explorer. These apps inform you about the wait time for each ride and any ride closures. To further shorten your wait time, purchase a Fast Pass and then start your day in Frontier Land and the water rides, which most people save for last because they do not want to get wet early in the day.

TIP FIVE: PRIORITIZE POPULAR RIDES

Make sure that you plan on devoting your time to the popular rides (the ones that require a fast pass). You can easily fit in smaller, less popular rides in between your fast pass times.

TIP SIX: HAVE A “RUNNER”

A “runner” is a person who will take your tickets and get the fast passes for everyone in the group. You can rotate which person in your party serves as the runner, or designate this job to the fastest person. Also note that the “show” fast passes differ from the “ride” fast passes, so you can obtain them separately without having to wait.

***Please note that everyone has to check into the park to get a fast pass and be present to pick up his or her fast pass. Also, if a ride closes during the hour of your fast pass time, you are allowed to use your fast pass for that ride at any point during the day.

TIP SEVEN: GO AS A SINGLE RIDER OR USE RIDER SWITCH

You can significantly reduce your wait time if you line up as a single rider. The downside to this is that you may not get to sit with people from your group, but you will all experience the ride with a shorter wait time.

Another strategy to use is “rider switch.” If you have a small child who is not yet old enough for certain rides, you can take them on a smaller ride, while your partner and older child are in line for the other ride. You then switch which parent goes on which ride – allowing the parents to experience both rides and the children to ride twice. It is best to ask the employee at the ride’s entrance how to do the rider switch.
