September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month; are you aware? Have the family and gang top off the weekend by walking to spread awareness of childhood cancer, a disease that more children die from than any other childhood disease including asthma, diabetes, AIDS, cystic fibrosis, and congenital anomalies combined. On Sunday, September 11th, join the community awareness and fundraiser Kids Walk through the streets of Loma Linda, California to the Loma Linda University Children's Hospital.
Stand in solidarity with families who have a child currently in oncology treatment, families holding banners in memory of their passed away child, and survivors who take this opportunity as a victory march for conquering the disease.
Hosting the awareness event, the Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California, Inc. (CCFSC) is a non-profit that serves more than 650 families and has strongly committed to serving children with cancer and their families throughout Southern California through emotional, financial, educational and emergency resources.
The course is an easily navigational 1.5-mile route that welcomes both strollers and wagons. Look up the route online and look out for volunteers along the course to help guide you in the right direction. After the trek, all registered walkers should relax and celebrate their victory at the event’s After Party! The After Party will offer families and friends light refreshments, game tables, raffle prizes, and various fun activities. Pre-registered children will also receive a goodie bag at the After Party.
The Kids Walk will specifically applaud and give awards for the youngest walker (or stroller), most spirited family/team (banners, singing, and fun are strongly encouraged!), and the family/team with the most donations. Tribute to these winners will be at the trophy/award presentation during the After Party.
Registration for the Kids Walk requires a $10 donation. Walkers who register before August 22nd can also look forward to a free event t-shirt. Register online via EventBrite.com. Patients and survivors are warmly encouraged to join the walk for free.
Day-of registration is from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., the walk begins at 9 a.m., and the after party begins at 10 a.m.
