Jurupa Mountain Discovery Center (JMDC) offers nine acres of botanical gardens completely free to the public in the beautiful foothills of the Jurupa Mountains. Within those nine acres, families and students can explore over ten dinosaur sculptures. Beyond these public grounds, JMDC boasts 82 acres exclusively reserved for school field trips, a large variety of daily paid expeditions, weekend activities, community events, and private parties.
In addition to the immaculate dinosaur sculptures, visitors of all ages will enjoy seeing the tortoises and turtles that JMDC has roaming about. JMDC is home to twenty-eight Red Ear Sliders accompanied with gold fish in their turtle pond, located in the garden. Additionally, the turtle pond is currently in the works to expand in size this year! In the tortoise barn and paddock just beyond the Museum Gift Shop, the discovery center houses two female California Desert Tortoises. Then, in the barn and paddock next door, there are two male Sulcata Tortoises named Gamera and Alfredo from sub-Sahara Africa. JMDC is looking to expand even further, as plans are in motion to design an enclosure for tortoises in one of the gardens. There is so much natural wildlife to discover and learn about with a visit to JMDC!
Any discovery center is not complete without its very own museum gift shop. JMDC Museum Gift Shop is actually in the stages of completely renovating. They are constructing new sections, splashing new color on the walls, expanding floor space, adding new displays, and making the gift shop a brighter experience with more efficient lighting.
JMDC invites the entire family to its various special events. Every Saturday, JMDC can be found at the Valley Patch Farmer’s Market from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Jurupa Valley Spectrum. There, visitors can browse through JMDC’s selection of plants from Granite Hill Nursery and items from their Museum Gift Shop.
