Things to do in Manhattan Beach for a Weekend Getaway

About 5 month(s) ago by Ayres Hotels

If you’re looking for the perfect weekend getaway that doesn’t involve a lot of driving, head to Manhattan Beach for a little slice of paradise. Manhattan Beach offers everything you would expect from a California Beach. With miles of white sand, the beach is scattered with volleyball nets, sun worshippers, an iconic pier, and some serious surfers. There’s a lot going on in this oft-overlooked South Bay city where the vibes are mellow, and the city is happening. Here’s a look at some of the neighborhood’s best activities…

The Beach Scene

The Volleyball nets are always busy on Manhattan Beach. You can join in a pickup game or simply watch the locals play. In August, you can enjoy the Manhattan Beach Open, also known as the Super Bowl of beach volleyball.

After some beach volleyball, jump in the water and go for a swim or watch the local surfers compete for a wave. You can also try out boogie-boarding, paddle boarding, or gear up for your own surf lesson from a local surf instructor.

Don’t miss the iconic red-roofed, hexagonal-shaped building at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier. It’s located at the end of Manhattan Beach Blvd and there’s plenty of parking lots and curbside parking. The pier is considered one of the prettiest on the Santa Monica Bay and is also home to a small aquarium.

Shopping and Dining

Just up the block from the beach is charming downtown Manhattan Beach, where the streets are lined with over 200 local boutiques and restaurants. With award winning chef’s, trendy retailers, and art galleries…it’s the perfect place to take a break from the beach and enjoy some local flavor.

You can start your lazy morning at Uncle Bill’s Pancake House. This iconic 1961 A-frame structure boasts the best breakfast in town. In the evening check out The Strand, with its sexy design and incredible views, is the perfect place to watch the sunset.

Walking, Biking and Skating

You’ll find two separate oceanfront paths in Manhattan Beach, one for those who favor biking and skating, and one for folks on foot.

If you want to rent a bike, you can cruise about two miles on the path that leads to the Hermosa Beach Pier. For those who prefer a stroll, you can simply enjoy a leisurely waterfront walk on The Strand where you’ll never run out of things to see. With all the mansions dotting The Strand, it’s no wonder Costal Living rated Manhattan Beach one of the most expensive beach towns in America.
