New Century Brings New Look, New Name to Ayres Hotels
COSTA MESA, Calif., March 14, 2006 - It's a brand new century for the Ayres family. Last year, the well-respected Orange County-based family commemorated 100 years of doing business in Southern California, from developing subdivisions and building more than 30,000 homes, to achieving other business milestones that included creating a dynamic chain of 16 European-style boutique hotels in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties, and in the Inland Empire.

Now, in keeping with its pledge to hotel guests to always provide them with comfortable elegance and rich amenities at a competitive price, the company is completing the renovation of guestrooms, lobbies and other public spaces in all of its hotels.

The major renovation project came about as a direct result of the implementation of an aggressive quality assurance program spearheaded by Bruce Ayres and Janet Ayres, wife of family patriarch Donald Ayres, Jr., that underscores the company's attention to quality. Among other things, it includes thorough, surprise inspections of all of the company's hotels from the lobby to the laundry.

"We constantly strive to make our hotels as fresh and unique as the guests we serve by staying ahead of the curve and the competition," said Douglas Ayres. "In undertaking this renovation project, we have taken our new style cues from three primary sources: our European-style boutique hotel tradition, the expectations of our corporate guests and our own unique family influences."

The result is a new decor that moves away from the French Country motif that characterized most of the Ayres properties in the 1990s to an elegant yet more comfortable look more closely resembling the Ayres family's own personal design style - one that makes guests feel like they are staying in a luxurious home rather than in a hotel.

The airy living room-style lobbies now feature burgundy and gold tones on walls and ceilings that are accented with richly upholstered chairs, comfortable sofas, marble-topped wrought iron coffee tables, plus cherry wood sofa and end tables and hardwood cabinetry. Floors are tiled in marble with European inspired rugs, and beautifully framed artwork is everywhere. Many have inviting fireplaces, designed by Douglas Ayres.

Brimming with decorator touches, guestrooms also feature the same fresh color tones, richly upholstered furnishings and compelling artwork found in the hotels' public spaces. Many have custom-made brown leather executive desk chairs paired with oversized work desks featuring high-speed Internet access, and cozy sofas for pure relaxation. In-room kitchenettes feature refrigerators, coffeemakers and microwaves to accent the home feel.

Design statements that are uniquely Ayres include the use of exclusive Ayres Dream Sleeper, pillow-top mattresses, plus upgraded linens and choice of down feather or polyester pillows, and custom duvets. The Ayres Hotel & Suites Costa Mesa-Newport Beach even accents guestrooms and hallways with framed photos of the nautical family's yachting heritage.

To further emphasize the importance of its core business - hotels - the family has also shortened the company name from Ayres Hotel Group to Ayres Hotels.

"Two thousand and six is the first year of an exciting new century for the Ayres Family doing business in Southern California. We have taken this opportune moment in our history as a trendsetting hotel company to change our name to Ayres Hotels to more closely align our formal name with our brand," said Bruce Ayres.

"By changing our name, we are sending a message to our guests that we take our core business - and their comfort, safety and productivity - very seriously."
Donald Ayres III said that what will never change is the attention to detail and service that are hallmarks of every Ayres property, and the company's commitment to its three core values - caring about people, valuing teamwork and delivering results.
