The Story

In music, the term “allegretto” describes a cheerful tempo of 112-120 beats per minute, and at  Allegretto Vineyard Resort by Ayres, it’s an expression of a life lived joyfully, playfully, in harmony and with intention. The resort is the vision of fourth-generation hotelier Douglas Ayres, who, as a keen observer of global cultures and traditions, spent 13 years exploring the landscapes and vineyards of Paso Robles before discovering the 20 magnificent acres in East Paso Robles that would become the Allegretto.

Gardens & Grounds

Set across 20 acres of vineyards, fruit-bearing orchards and beautifully landscaped grounds, Allegretto offers a peaceful retreat shaped by the natural beauty of Paso Robles. Wander along winding pathways, take in the vineyard views or find a quiet place beneath the trees. Inspired by the relationship between people and the natural world, the estate encourages guests to slow down, enjoy the changing seasons and rediscover the simple pleasures of being outdoors.

Throughout Allegretto, art and artifacts bring character, history and a sense of discovery to every space. Drawn from diverse cultures and traditions, these thoughtfully selected pieces offer glimpses into different places, perspectives and ways of life. As you explore the resort, take a moment to notice the details, uncover the stories behind each piece and experience the inspiration that makes Allegretto truly one of a kind.

Sculptures

In the East Garden, just beyond the Romeo and Juliet Tunnel, stands an obelisk, an ancient Egyptian monument used in Roman state architecture to denote power in places such as Washington, D.C., Paris’s Place Concorde and St. Peter’s Square. The Via Verona features several sculptures representing the world’s major sacred faith traditions. These figures include Siddhartha Gautama, later known as the Buddha, a Hindu goddess from the Vedic tradition and the Virgin of Guadalupe, which was crafted in San Miguel de Allende and blessed at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City – the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world.

Sacred Spaces

Populated with art and artifacts from his travels throughout South America, Asia, Europe and beyond, Allegretto Vineyard Resort is Doug’s most personal project yet, designed to recreate the peace and proportion of ancient spaces. “Across history, people have expressed their connection to a deeper source through their environment, food, song, dance, and celebration,” he says. “The Allegretto is another of those human expressions. It tells a story in time - a story of joy.”

The Star Garden Trail

The Star Garden Trail invites guests to slow down, explore the wonders of the night sky and enjoy a moment of quiet among the natural beauty of Allegretto Vineyard Resort in Paso Robles, California. Along the trail, twelve stations represent the constellations of the Zodiac, a system that has sparked curiosity and inspired personal reflection for centuries.

Sonic Labyrinth

The first of its kind in the world, the Sonic Labyrinth offers a one-of-a-kind sensory experience where sound and movement come together. Motion-activated wind instruments create gentle, evolving tones as guests walk through the Sound Circle, encouraging a sense of calm, focus and discovery. At its center, an intentionally designed quiet space offers a moment of stillness, inviting guests to pause, reset and reconnect with their surroundings.

Sequoia Cross Section

The centerpiece of the Sequoia Room, this imposing cross-section from a giant Sequoia tree that had fallen in Sequoia National Park defines the space, its rings giving a tangible timeline of natural history and human history, from the building of the Great Wall of China to the birth of Christ and the First and Second World Wars.
